Phoebus hasn't had much luck against Gloucester recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Phantoms will venture away from home to challenge the Dukes at 4:30 p.m. Phoebus has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Phoebus after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Kecoughtan, falling 15-2. The Phantoms have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Phoebus saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josiah (Beaux) Moore, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. King Robinson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Gloucester came out on top against Bethel on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Dukes took their matchup against the Bruins 10-6. The victory continues a trend for the Dukes in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now won three in a row.
Trevor Richardson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tyler Boulay, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Landon Morris was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Phoebus' defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Gloucester, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Phoebus has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gloucester struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Phoebus suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Gloucester in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Phantoms avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
