Nogales comes up short despite Cecilia Burruel's dominant performance

Recap: Nogales Apaches vs. Catalina Foothills Falcons

The Nogales Apaches suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Catalina Foothills by a score of 47-45. Nogales has not had much luck with Catalina Foothills recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Nogales lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cecilia Burruel. Despite the final result, she scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. Burruel has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Rodriguez, who scored nine points along with two steals.

Catalina Foothills got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Clara-Mae Hrouch out in front who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayanna Chief, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.

Nogales' defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Catalina Foothills, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Nogales will head out on the road to square off against Tucson High Magnet School at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Tucson High Magnet School is ranked 93rd, while Nogales is ranked 108th). As for Catalina Foothills, Catalina Foothills and Mountain View will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Mountain View is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
