Basketball Recap: Wheatmore Falls Despite Big Games from Collin Dodd and Avery Ivey

Wheatmore was the 53-44 winner over Jordan-Matthews when they last played one another back in February of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Warriors took a 57-43 bruising from the Jets on Monday. The contest marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Wheatmore's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Avery Ivey, who went 6-for-15 en route to 20 points, and Collin Dodd, who shot 43% from the field on his way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Dodd has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played.

Jordan-Matthews got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zaeon Auguste out in front who shot 50% from the field to rack up 21 points. Auguste is becoming a predictor of the Jets' success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 3-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Mitchell, who went 6-for-12 on his way to 16 points.

Wheatmore now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Jordan-Matthews, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Wheatmore will venture away from home to face off against Forbush at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors will be up against the Falcons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 57.33 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Jordan-Matthews, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Chatham Central at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jets will be up against the Bears' rather soft defense (which has allowed 52.11 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
