Softball Recap: Cary Academy Takes a Loss

Cary Academy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They came up short against the Charlotte Country Day School Buccaneers, falling 22-1. If the Chargers were looking for revenge after losing 12-2 to the Buccaneers when the teams met back in March of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Charlotte Country Day School's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3-2. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 7.7 runs per game.

For Charlotte Country Day School's part, Chloe Coddington made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Coddington was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ella Stigliano was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Molly Moran was another key player, going 2-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple.

Cary Academy will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Ravenscroft at 5:00 p.m. on April 7. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they are taking a road trip to face off against Durham Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.75 runs per game on average), something the Buccaneers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
