Long considered the top player in his class, Michael Gilchrist remains No. 1 in MaxPreps.com's Class of 2011 Top 100.

The recent Kentucky commitment averaged 16.4 points and 11.5 rebounds per game as a junior at St. Patrick (Elizabeth, N.J.), where he shared the starring role with Duke-bound senior point guard Kyrie Irving.

Gilchrist has some competition for the top spot, however. Florida's Austin Rivers, ranked No. 2, is the primary contender. The 6-foot-3 guard had a flashier junior campaign with several nationally-televised scoring exhibitions and a Class 6A state title at Winter Park (Winter Park, Fla.).

Gilchrist and Rivers will continue their battle for the top spot this summer in Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League. Gilchrist plays for New Jersey-based Team Final, while Rivers leads Florida-based Each 1 Teach 1.

Virginia's James McAdoo, Illinois' Wayne Blackshear and Missouri's Bradley Beal complete the 2011 starting five.

Class of 2011 rankings will be updated again in mid-August and finalized in April, 2011.
