Baseball Game Preview: Avon Lake Shoremen vs. Avon Eagles

For the second straight game, Avon Lake will face off against Avon. The Shoremen will venture away from home to challenge the Eagles at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Avon Lake took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Avon 2-1.

Brayden Poltrone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

At the plate, Avon Lake saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Haven, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Another was Alex Soloff, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Avon Lake is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Avon, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-11.
