Baseball Recap: Ukiah Finds Home Field Redemption Against Cardinal Newman

There's no place like home for Ukiah, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Cardinal Newman Cardinals on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Brayden Beebe made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Beebe wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was George Gibbs, who scored a run while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Gibbs a new career-high in doubles (two). Another was Takoda Newman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Ukiah was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

With the win, Ukiah broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-6. As for Cardinal Newman, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Cardinals beat Ukiah by a score of 1-0 on Friday.
