Softball Recap: Rio Hondo Prep's Run of Seven Straight Wins Now Over

Rio Hondo Prep dropped their record down to 16-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They lost 14-7 to the Providence Pioneers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-3 back in April.

Rio Hondo Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was ALLIE SCOTT, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and one double while going 4-for-4.

As for Providence, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.

On Providence's side, Madelynn Watts made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Watts has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Evangelina Aleman and Delailah Lopez did most of the damage at the plate: Aleman went 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Lopez went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Aleman continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Ariana Benito was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Rio Hondo Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Providence, they will face off against Archer School for Girls at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pioneers will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
