Basketball Game Preview: Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles vs. King Cove T-Jacks and Rookies

Sand Point is 9-1 against King Cove since February of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Sand Point Eagles/Lady Eagles will head out to take on the King Cove T-Jacks and Rookies. King Cove took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Sand Point, who comes in off a win.

Sand Point is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Tanalian 63-38 last Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Sand Point's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Precious Kaminanga, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Kaminanga a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Whitney Smith, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 17 points and six steals.

Sand Point was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, King Cove's good fortune finally ran out last Monday. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bristol Bay. While the T-Jacks and Rookies didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Angels 16-8 in the first quarter.

Sand Point's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for King Cove, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Sand Point came out on top in a nail-biter against King Cove when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 43-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sand Point since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
