Baseball Game Preview: Glencoe Panthers vs. Drummond Bulldogs

Glencoe and Drummond are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. Glencoe will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Drummond at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Glencoe's offense. They lost 8-0 to Dover on March 13th. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Drummond came tearing into Friday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Boston Burford and Anthony Fugate did most of the damage at the plate: Burford scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Fugate scored a run while going 1-for-1. What's more, Burford posted two RBI, the most he's had since March 3rd. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Mason, who scored two runs while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Drummond hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive matches.

Drummond pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Glencoe, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
