AAAA Region 8 recap November 19, 2013

Lanier moved up to 100 from 126 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAAA Region 8. Lanier climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Carver 26-7.

Monroe Area added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Banneker, 68-39. The win marks 11th in a row for the the Hurricanes.

Stanton Truitt provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Monroe Area beat the Trojans. He completed 4 passes for 69 yards and also ran for 182 yards. Truitt's key target this week was Kwan Brooks, who caught 2 passes for 40 yards.

Truitt was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 182 yards on 19 carries as Matt Fligg's team bested the Panthers. Teammate Brooks added to the ground attack by rushing for 129 yards.

Lanier's Canyon Cook and Valentine have formed a dream team this season, leading AAAA Region 8 in both passing and receiving yards. Cook has thrown for 1,232 yards this season, while Valentine has 19 catches for 570 yards. Brooks from the Hurricanes leads the league in rushing with 1,584 yards.

Monroe Area took down Banneker 68-39 last week, the largest margin of any game. Truitt in the win.
