Basketball Game Preview: Bangor Slaters vs. Northwestern Lehigh Tigers

Bangor hasn't had much luck against Northwestern Lehigh recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bangor Slaters will square off against the Northwestern Lehigh Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Tuesday, Bangor was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 59-55 to Pen Argyl. The Slaters have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite their loss, Bangor saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Avery Nelson, who posted 17 points and six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The game was Nelson's third in a row with at least ten points. Kaylynn Figurski was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to 11 boards and seven assists.

Even though they lost, Bangor was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, Northwestern Lehigh's undefeated season came to an end after 20 games on Monday. They took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Palmerton. The loss put an end to the Tigers' undefeated start to the season.

Bangor's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Northwestern Lehigh, their loss ended an 11-game streak of away wins and brought them to 20-1.

Bangor was dealt a bruising 66-24 defeat at the hands of Northwestern Lehigh when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Bangor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
