Whiteland and New Palestine are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Warriors will head out to take on the Dragons at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Whiteland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Whiteland let Tri-West Hendricks stack four runs on them in the sixth inning on Friday but luckily Whiteland prevailed anyway. The Warriors walked away with an 8-4 win over the Bruins. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Bruins recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Peyton Dickens made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Dickens was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, Kayden Wilson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Isaac Phegley was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, New Palestine beat Danville 6-2 on Friday.
New Palestine also got a great performance from Holden Hughes as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
On the hitting side, New Palestine let Rigg Mahurin and Jacob Morris run wild. Mahurin went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Morris went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was Morris' first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kingston Hedges, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
New Palestine has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Whiteland, their record is now 5-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Whiteland has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like New Palestine struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Whiteland beat New Palestine 6-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
