Basketball Game Preview: Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers vs. Wabasso Rabbits

The Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Wabasso Rabbits at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Westbrook-Walnut Grove knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matches -- so hopefully Wabasso likes a good challenge.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda to the tune of 83-50 on Friday. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while the Coyotes are ranked 313th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Wabasso had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past the Greyhounds with points to spare, taking the game 91-77. While the Rabbits didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-22), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Wabasso, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.

Westbrook-Walnut Grove couldn't quite finish off Wabasso when the teams last played back in December of 2023 and fell 60-57. Can Westbrook-Walnut Grove avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
