The Del Campo Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Vanden Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Del Campo has three straight victories, Vanden has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Del Campo's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Nevada Union. That five run margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.
Mitchell Clements made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Alex Young was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Robert Franklin also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Del Campo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Vanden came up short against Clayton Valley Charter on Wednesday and fell 6-2.
Like Del Campo, Vanden also got a great game from a two-way player: Jackson Armstrong. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Armstrong was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Mariano Gonzalez was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Del Campo's record now sits at 4-6-1. As for Vanden, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
Del Campo might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Vanden in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Del Campo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
