Baseball Game Preview: North Medford Black Tornado vs. South Eugene Axe

The North Medford Black Tornado are taking a road trip to challenge the South Eugene Axe at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Medford will be strutting in after a victory while South Eugene will be coming in after a defeat.

North Medford is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Sheldon by a score of 11-7 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Black Tornado.

Calvin Rayburn looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Easton Curtis, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brady Pattersen, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double.

North Medford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.

Meanwhile, South Eugene was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Medford.

South Eugene saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Bush, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Bryce Roberts also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

North Medford's record now sits at 8-3. As for South Eugene, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

North Medford took their win against South Eugene in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-4 score. Do the Black Tornado have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Axe turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
