Recap: Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs vs. Wheeler Wildcats
The Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 36-29 to Wheeler. While losing is never fun, Kennesaw Mountain can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 221st, while Wheeler is ranked 59th).
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyson Harmon, who rushed for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Melvin Emioma was another key contributor, rushing for 32 yards and two touchdowns.
Wheeler's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josiah Allen led the charge by rushing for 144 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry, and also throwing for 34 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Romain, who rushed for 120 yards on only nine carries.
Kennesaw Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Wheeler, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3.
Kennesaw Mountain will take on Cherokee at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cherokee is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Wheeler, they will be playing at home against Walton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Walton's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
