Basketball Recap: York Cougars vs. Northwestern Trojans

The York Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 12th straight defeat. They suffered a tough 63-43 loss at the hands of Northwestern. York has struggled against the Trojans recently, as their contest on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why York lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bryson Steele. Despite the final result, he scored 12 points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Brenden Lacroix, who scored ten points.

Northwestern's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Mitchell, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Mitchell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jaylan Moore was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with four steals.

York dropped their record down to 5-16 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Northwestern, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. York is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Bruins at 7:45 p.m. on February 6th. Lancaster presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cougars in South Carolina (the Bruins are ranked 18th, while the Cougars are ranked 184th). As for Northwestern, they will head out on the road to square off against the Stallions at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday. South Pointe is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
