The Davidson Academy Bears will challenge the Gordonsville Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Davidson Academy has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Davidson Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Station Camp on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bison by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Bears have lost by just one run.
Boston Graham
Boston Graham was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Davidson Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-4 otherwise.
At the plate, Davidson Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tate Harold, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Gordonsville got themselves on the board against Pickett County on Tuesday, but Pickett County never followed suit. They blew past the Bobcats 10-0.
J. Foster made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Foster was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Tucker Smith and Sam Ausderau did most of the damage at the plate: Smith scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances, while Ausderau went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave Ausderau a new career-high in RBI. Dalton Hancock was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Gordonsville's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.3 runs. As for Davidson Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Davidson Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Gordonsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.3 strikeouts.
