Softball Recap: Scappoose Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Scappoose dropped their record down to 15-2 on Thursday, which also ended the team's ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Helens Lions. The match marked the Indians' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Saige Casey was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

As for St. Helens, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games.

On St. Helens' side, Eme Curaming spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits.

On the hitting side, St. Helens' victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Halli Heys, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

While Scappoose had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
