Baseball Recap: Sayreville Comes Up Short

Sayreville had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-11 to make it five. They fell 4-0 to the Edison Eagles. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Bombers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Edison, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

For Edison's part, Anthony Calantoni was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Calantoni has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 8-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Robert Roma, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Sayreville will face off against South Amboy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Edison, they will take on Carteret at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
