After the smoke cleared from the many holiday tournaments, two teams from northern Indiana - a large school and a small school - had the biggest jumps in the weekly MaxPreps Computer rankings for boys basketball.

The biggest boost went to a small school, Oregon-Davis, which vaulted 61 points to No. 113 in a field of 435 teams. The 8-3 Bobcats used a big 22-10 fourth quarter to defeat Tippecanoe Valley 64-51, which had been ranked No. 210, in the Caston Shootout. Trevor Risner, a 5-foot-10 junior, led the way with 22 points while shooting 5-for-7 from 3-point range. Another 5-10 junior, Jon Clark, added 15 points and 6-1 senior John Messer scored 13.

They also defeated South Bend Career Academy 76-43 in the semifinals before falling to hot-shooting Lowell 85-68 in the finals. Lowell was rated No. 86 at the time.

Large-school Portage was right behind with a 60-point jump, based largely on a stunning 69-56 upset of Connersville, which entered the game 8-0 and ranked No. 29 in the state. Evan Galindo, a 5-11 senior, dominated with 28 points, while 6-1 senior Tyler Meux added 14. The Indians, who had won just once previously, also defeated Miami Valley (Dayton, Ohio) 68-38 while splitting four games during the Bob Wettig Holiday Tourney in Richmond, Ind.
