Preview: Columbus Cardinals vs. Yoakum Bulldogs
Columbus is 7-0 against Yoakum since January of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Columbus Cardinals will head out on the road to challenge the Yoakum Bulldogs at 6:15 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Karlee Mathis and Jayana Phillips.
Last Wednesday, things could have been worse for Columbus, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 56-41 loss to Edna.
Despite the defeat, Columbus had strong showings from Mathis, who scored 13 points, and Sage Thomas, who scored 12 points.
Yoakum posted their biggest win yet this season on Tuesday. They breezed by Rice Consolidated on the road to the tune of 55-25.
Columbus' loss dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Yoakum, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-12 record this season.
Columbus skirted past Yoakum 28-26 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Columbus since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
