Basketball Game Preview: Boonville Pioneers vs. Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats

Boonville hasn't had much luck against Evansville Mater Dei recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Boonville Pioneers will face off against the Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Boonville will be strutting in after a win while Evansville Mater Dei will be coming in after a loss.

Boonville will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Washington, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Boonville skirted past Washington 39-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pioneers have posted since January 13, 2024.

Meanwhile, Evansville Mater Dei was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They fell 50-42 to Vincennes Lincoln. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while the Alices are ranked 81st).

Boonville's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Evansville Mater Dei, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Boonville came up short against Evansville Mater Dei in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 45-40. Can Boonville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
