Preview: Ysleta Indians vs. Hanks Knights
Ysleta is 1-9 against Hanks since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Ysleta Indians will head out on the road to take on the Hanks Knights at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Ysleta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, things could have been worse for Ysleta, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 47-28 loss to Del Valle. Ysleta has struggled against Del Valle recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Ysleta saw an underclassman step up: Mary Raygoza scored 15 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Raygoza has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Janae Atkins, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Hanks put the finishing touches on their 14th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Parkland, posting a 69-23 victory on the road. Winning may never get old, but Hanks sure is getting used to it with their tenth in a row.
Ysleta's loss dropped their record down to 9-16. As for Hanks, they pushed their record up to 16-11 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Ysleta took a serious blow against Hanks when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 45-13. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hanks' Daisy Fernandez, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds. Now that Ysleta knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
