Volleyball Recap: Stanton Takes a Loss

If Stanton was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Pender on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs fell just short of the Guardian Angels Central Catholic Bluejays by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday.

While Stanton ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 12 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 24-26, 15-12.

Bridget Marotz paced Stanton's offense, picking up 25 kills. Marotz got some help from Bergan Pohlman and her 47 assists. Hazel Schellpeper controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic was led to victory by Emma Cohee and Riley Wegner. Cohee had seven digs and two aces, while Wegner had 35 digs and three aces. Cohee is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 17 or more in each of the last 36 games she's played dating back to last season.

Stanton's loss dropped their record down to 23-8. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, their victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-3.

Stanton has already played their next matchup, a 3-2 defeat against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on the 1st. Guardian Angels Central Catholic has also already played their next contest (against Valentine), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
