Softball Game Preview: Moorhead Spuds vs. Bemidji Lumberjacks

The Moorhead Spuds will square off against the Bemidji Lumberjacks at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Moorhead will be strutting in after a victory while Bemidji will be coming in after a defeat.

Moorhead will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating St. Michael-Albertville, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. The Spuds skirted past the Knights 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spuds have posted since April 26, 2024.

Kenadi Kays spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Taylor Kressin, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madden Bogenreif, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.

Sartell-St. Stephen hit Bemidji with a four-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lumberjacks took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sabres. The Lumberjacks haven't had much luck with the Sabres recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Moorhead's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Bemidji, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Moorhead was able to grind out a solid win over Bemidji when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 7-2. Do the Spuds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lumberjacks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
