Basketball Recap: Cobden Takes a Loss

Cobden lost against Pope County back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Cobden Appleknockers took a hard 53-36 fall against the Pope County Pirates. The Appleknockers were down 45-25 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Cobden lost, don't look at Natalie Franklin. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. Franklin is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last 12 games she's played. Shawna Burgess was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pope County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bella Fasolo, who posted 27 points. Those 27 points gave Fasolo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lawson Forthman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Cobden's loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Pope County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cobden will venture away from home to square off against Shawnee at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pope County, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Gallatin County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gallatin County will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Pope County surely won't give up without a fight.
