Basketball Recap: Nevi Wilkey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Classical over Bennington

Classical lost against Bennington back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Classical Saints fell 55-43 to the Bennington Bulldogs.

Classical lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Nevi Wilkey, who almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. She also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Classical is 8-2 when she posts at least three steals, but 3-6 otherwise. Maggie Neill was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and ten boards.

Bennington found their leader in sophomore Brooklyn Clark, who went 8-for-13 to rack up 17 points and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Clark has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rori Miles, who posted 13 points.

Classical dropped their record down to 11-8 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 7.67 assists in those games compared to only 7.67 in the others. As for Bennington, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.

Looking ahead, Classical will square off against Berean Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 21st. Bennington has already played their next match (against Trinity), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
