Baseball Recap: Salinas Takes a Loss

After soaring to 17 runs the game before, Salinas was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Monte Vista Christian Mustangs. The Cowboys were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mustangs earlier this season, when they won 17-1.

Salinas got a good showing from Andrew Gonzalez, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Salinas saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Rainey, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Bradeon Cagle was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Salinas dropped their record down to 6-13 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Monte Vista Christian, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-13.

Salinas has already played their next contest, a 9-1 loss against San Joaquin Memorial on the 23rd. As for Monte Vista Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 7-1 defeat against St. Francis on the 24th.
