Basketball Recap: Hemingway Comes Up Short

Hemingway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Kingstree Blazers, falling 74-6. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-2.

Kingstree's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Naydia Shaw led the charge by dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Shaw's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyla Wallace, who went 8 of 17 on her way to 18 points and eight steals.

Hemingway's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Kingstree, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Hemingway will host South Columbus at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Kingstree, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Johnsonville at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kingstree knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Johnsonville likes a good challenge.
