Recap: Carver Tigers vs. Dougherty Trojans
The Carver Tigers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Dougherty Trojans on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 67-66 to the Trojans. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tony Montgomery, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Montgomery is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last nine games he's played. Tobiaz Tolbert was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Kaleke Singletary-Jinks was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with eight rebounds and six assists for Dougherty. Another player making a difference was Jawuan Jinks jr, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Carver and nudges their season record down to 19-4. As for Dougherty, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-7.
Carver will be playing in front of their home fans against Thomasville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thomasville is coming into the game with five straight losses on the road, meaning Carver will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. Dougherty does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
