Baseball Recap: Mishawaka Marian Comes Up Short

Mishawaka Marian extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-10 in the process. They lost 7-1 to the Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Saints. The Knights were not able to make up for their defeat to the Saints from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Mishawaka Marian got a good showing from Eric Unwin, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

As for Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.

On Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger's side, Aslan Nolan and Lucas Collins made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Nolan pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Collins didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Nolan went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Collins went 1-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Nolan has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Houston Ellinger was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Jeremy Haynes was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coincidentally, Mishawaka Marian and Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger will both be playing Logansport the next time they take the field. The Knights will head out to face the Berries at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Saints will play them later in the day, at 3:30 p.m.
