The Scott County Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Assumption Rockets at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. Scott County will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
Scott County barely beat Woodford County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Yellowjackets with a sharp 6-0 win on Friday. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.
Ada Little made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Gracie Strong was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Wigginton, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Scott County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodford County only managed one hit.
Assumption let Eastern stack five runs on them in the sixth inning on Wednesday but luckily Assumption prevailed anyway. The Rockets came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 9-6. Winning may never get old, but the Rockets sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Like Scott County, Assumption also got a great game from a two-way player: Lauren Satterly. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. Satterly was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Paige Crain, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Ashley Jones also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Assumption pushed their record up to 16-4-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Scott County, their record now sits at 16-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Scott County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Assumption struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Scott County's way against Assumption in their previous matchup back in March, as Scott County made off with an 11-1 victory. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rockets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
