Preview: Apex Cougars vs. New Bern Bears
The Apex Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the New Bern Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Apex blew past Green Hope, posting a 39-12 victory on the road. Apex pushed the score to 39-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Green Hope cut but never quite recovered from.
It was another big night for Jayvion Danzy, who rushed for 292 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Danzy was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards.
Meanwhile, New Bern entered their tilt with D.H. Conley with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. New Bern took their game on the road two weeks ago with ease, bagging a 52-20 victory over D.H. Conley. Given New Bern's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while D.H. Conley is ranked 158th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
New Bern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Karvin Magwood led the charge by rushing for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. New Bern also got a significant boost from Emmanuel Johnson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 108 yards.
Their wins bumped Apex to 7-3 and New Bern to 4-6.
