Baseball Preview: Lyons Lions vs. The Academy Wildcats

The Lyons Lions will square off against The Academy Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Lyons was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Front Range Christian 7-6. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won five in a row.

Jake LaCrosse was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over 6.2 innings pitched. LaCrosse was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

Like Lyons, The Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Dylan Akers. He struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Akers has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

The Academy's win bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Lyons, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
