Softball Game Preview: Henryville Hornets vs. Salem Lions

The Henryville Hornets will head out to challenge the Salem Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Henryville has three straight victories, Salem has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Henryville had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Paoli on Friday. The Hornets never let the Rams get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Gabby Comer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Allie McAfee was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Salem didn't have quite enough to beat Charlestown on Monday and fell 2-1.

Henryville pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Salem, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Henryville suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Salem when the teams last played back in May of 2019. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
