Softball Preview: Madison West Regents vs. Janesville Parker Vikings
Madison West is 0-10 against Janesville Parker since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Regents are taking a road trip to take on the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Madison West will be strutting in after a win while Janesville Parker will be coming in after a loss.
Madison West took a 20-run defeat the last time they faced off against Sun Prairie West, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Regents won by a run and slipped past the Wolves 4-3.
Amira Baldon made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Baldon wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ishi Gregory, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those hits were Gregory's first of the season. Fiona Dettmann was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Janesville Parker was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Elkhorn. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by just one run.
Delaney King was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenedi Pryne, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Janesville Parker's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Madison West, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
Madison West couldn't quite get it done against Janesville Parker when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Regents avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
