Baseball Recap: Clovis Comes Up Short

Clovis fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Elk Grove on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Thundering Herd by a score of 4-3. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thundering Herd apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.

Logan Georges was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Clovis is 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, Clovis saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaden Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Nolan Brown also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Clovis' loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Elk Grove, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Coming up, Clovis will host Frontier at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Elk Grove, they will venture away from home to challenge Cardinal Newman at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Thundering Herd 3.6, the Cardinals 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
