Baseball Recap: Jennings Comes Up Short

Jennings had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-8 to make it six. They came up short against the Hazelwood East Spartans, falling 17-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 26-10 back in March.

As for Hazelwood East, their record is now 3-6. They not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th (when they won 26-10).

For Hazelwood East's part, Jordan Tomlin made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tomlin was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Justin Banks, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Hazelwood East is undefeated when Banks posts two or more stolen bases, but 0-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Lebron Williams, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Jennings will challenge University City at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hazelwood East, they will face off against Gateway Legacy Christian Academy at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
