Baseball Recap: Logan Extends Winning Streak to Four

Logan had already won three in a row and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Sky View Bobcats. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Marcus Shopbell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Logan let Josh Jensen and Kyler Briel run wild. Jensen scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Briel went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Logan is 2-1 when Jensen posts two or more runs, but 2-9 otherwise. Sam Smith was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Logan's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-10. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sky View, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Logan is set to challenge their familiar foe Mountain Crest at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Sky View will square off against rival Bear River at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
