Baseball Game Preview: Haywood Tomcats vs. Obion County Rebels

The Haywood Tomcats will head out on the road to challenge the Obion County Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Haywood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.

Haywood barely beat Liberty Tech Magnet the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Haywood blew past Liberty Tech Magnet 13-2 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Tomcats in their matchups with the Crusaders: they've now won eight in a row.

Owen Stanley and Kevion Woodland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Stanley pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Woodland struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Stanley scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Woodland went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Haywood is undefeated when Stanley posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carlos Hines, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Ty' Sean Mercer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Haywood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Obion County's offense. They lost 13-0 to Westview on Thursday. The Rebels have struggled against the Chargers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meetings.

The victory got Haywood back to even at 3-3. As for Obion County, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Haywood might still be hurting after the 18-6 loss they got from Obion County in their previous matchup last Monday. Can Haywood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
