Walker Valley proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 29) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 87-85 victory over the McMinn County Cherokees. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Cherokees are ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Walker Valley is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.1 points over those games. As for McMinn County, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-11.

Looking ahead, Walker Valley will challenge Rhea County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Walker Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. McMinn County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
