Baseball Recap: Union City Has No Trouble Against Blue River Valley

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Union City walked away with it. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Blue River Valley Vikings on Wednesday. Considering the Indians have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Trendon Spence made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Union City's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-11 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caleb Lutz, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI. Another player making a difference was Joseangel Perez-Contreras, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Union City has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Blue River Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-9.

As of now, neither Union City nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
