Volleyball Game Preview: Newtown Nighthawks vs. Ridgefield Tigers

The Newtown Nighthawks will head out to take on the Ridgefield Tigers at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Newtown is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.

Newtown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Kolbe-Cathedral, who was ranked 17th at the time (Newtown was ranked tenth). The Nighthawks walked away with a 3-1 win over the Cougars on Monday.

Newtown was especially dominant in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-18, 15-25, 25-13.

Newtown relied on the efforts of Eli Sullivan, who had 24 digs and one assist, and Kade Deraney, who had 13 digs and one block. Sullivan has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more digs the last nine times he's played.

Meanwhile, Ridgefield got the win against McMahon on Thursday by a conclusive 3-0.

Ridgefield pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Newtown, their record is now 5-1.

Newtown might still be hurting after the 3-0 loss they got from Ridgefield in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Nighthawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
