Recap: Stevenson Pirates vs. Marina Mariners

The Stevenson Pirates lost against the Marina Mariners back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Stevenson ended up on the wrong side of a rough 61-38 walloping at the hands of Marina. While losing is never fun, Stevenson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 860th, while Marina is ranked 363rd).

Stevenson's loss came despite strong showings from Tate Toole and Cooper Olin. Toole scored 12 points, while Olin scored ten points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kekoa Williams, who scored four points.

Marina was led to victory by Jordan Bonnard Webb and Julius Robinson. Bonnard Webb scored 19 points, while Robinson scored 23 points. Robinson hasn't dropped below 15 points for 13 straight games. Another player making a difference was Isaiah True, who scored 11 points.

Stevenson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season. As for Marina, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 20-4.

Stevenson won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Watsonville at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Stevenson is facing Watsonville at the right time seeing as Watsonville is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Marina does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
