Softball Recap: Denver City Finds Playoff Glory Versus Presidio

Denver City had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Presidio Blue Devils a 16-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Mustangs have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jackie Lozano made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Denver City got a massive performance out of Analee Larrea, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Larrea a new career-high. Yuri Torres was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

Denver City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .742. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Presidio only posted an OBP of .214.

The win made it two in a row for Denver City and bumps their season record up to 21-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Presidio, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-17.

Denver City has already played their next matchup (against Bushland), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Presidio does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
