Avon unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell to the Plainfield Quakers 47-41. The Orioles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Quakers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Avon's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kendrick Dunmore, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. DeAndre Lott-Hancock was another key player, going 5 for 9 en route to 10 points plus six rebounds.
Plainfield got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Landon Gilliatt out in front who had 15 points along with five assists. The dominant performance also gave Gilliatt a new career-high in threes (three). Another player making a difference was Harper Baker-Lands, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points plus two steals.
Avon is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Victory College Prep at 1:03 p.m. on Saturday. As for Plainfield, they will square off against Parke Heritage at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
