Basketball Game Preview: Powhatan Indians vs. L.C. Bird Skyhawks

Powhatan hasn't had much luck against L.C. Bird recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Powhatan Indians will head out to challenge the L.C. Bird Skyhawks at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

L.C. Bird will be up against a hot Powhatan team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Powhatan breezed by Dinwiddie to the tune of 63-29 on Monday.

Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that L.C. Bird blew James River Midlothian out of the water with a 67-34 final score. The Skyhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 30 points or more this season.

L.C. Bird's win came from a few key players Powhatan will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kamari Simon, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Kylie Kent, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

L.C. Bird's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for Powhatan, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.

Powhatan was dealt a bruising 64-29 defeat at the hands of L.C. Bird when the teams last played back in January. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Powhatan was down 37-15.
