Baseball Recap: Cumberland Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Cumberland had lost six games straight , but after bumping their record up to 4-13 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ladysmith Lumberjacks, sneaking past 9-7. The Beavers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Lumberjacks, too.

Cooper Schramski was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Peterson, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Ladysmith, they dropped their record down to 3-15 with the loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since May 3, 2024.

On Ladysmith's side, Jaxen Donohue put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. Donohue has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Manny Moore made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Andrew Lehman, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Looking ahead, Cumberland will square off against Northwestern at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ladysmith, they will challenge Barron at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Bears will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Lumberjacks surely won't give up without a fight.
